Chesapeake Beach Fishing Captain, Maryland Fishing Guide
Captain Paul O'Conner has lived and fished in Chesapeake Beach since 1974. He started out his time on the Maryland Chesapeake Bay on the crabbing boat "Viking" owned by George W. Klein Jr at the age of 11. The first few trips were more like a sight-seeing tour, but as time wore on and George trained him on how things went on the crab boat crabbing and fishing the Chesapeake Bay became a part of Captain Paul. While working the bay for blue crabs, Captain Paul was also trained on how to "fish" Captain George's pound net located just south of Chesapeake Beach.
Ten years went by through middle school, high school, and college working the waters from Chesapeake Beach to Flag Harbor. Along the way there was some time for some Chesapeake Beach fishing with friends, hauling a seine net in Herring Bay, shedding soft crabs and even going as a mate for Captain Shawn Brumley on his "Lucky Strike" from Deale a couple of times.
A few years went by after having to get a "real job" before Captain Paul could afford his own boat which was a Parker 2520. This boat sparked the love of the Bay again and convinced Captain Paul to seek out his Captain's license. Along with Captain Kenny Boswell of Deale, Maryland and Captain Jeff Drury of Solomon's Island, MD all three completed the course and became Coast Guard Certified. Since then, Captain Paul has been a mate with Captain Eddie Greene on the Plumb Crazy, Captain Kenny Boswell on the Miss Carol, Captain Shawn Brumley on the Lucky Strike, Captain Ed O'Brien of Semper Fidelis, and Captain Stacey Witherow of Mary Ellen.
Captain Paul is also an experienced operator of the North Beach Vol. Fire Dept's Fire Boat 1. He has been trained in all operations and responds along with the Department of Natural Resources Police and Coast Guard to emergencies when called.
During the winter of 2004 the "Bay Hog" was fitted out for Chesapeake Bay charter fishing, adding rod holders, new electronics, all new wiring, seating, and a head. See the
Chesapeake Bay charter boat section about the Bay Hog for more information about her. Captain Paul works for the Washington DC Fire and EMS Dept in his other life; shift work allows time to take you to his favorite fishing spots on his days off. He looks forward to meeting you and your crew for a great day of fishing the middle bay. Mates:
